What is POP?

What type of Genre is K-Pop?

  • I'm curious.. can other countries like America and European countries make K-pop music or can only Koreans make K-pop music? What really sets K-pop apart from genres like Pop and Europop. Does it have a common sound or is the only thing that makes it K-pop is the fact their Korean and it's pop music? Thanks ;)..

  • Answer:

K-pop, like J-pop, is not distinct from the American music scene. If a cliche J-pop or K-pop band forged their papers, came to America, and played the exact same songs as an 'American' band they would not be considered a K-pop or J-pop band. This is not to say that K-pop and J-pop do not have their own distinctive style but rather that said style falls under the umbrella of American pop. If you're a Korean pop artist you're gonna get labeled K-pop. If you're an American pop artist playing cliche K-pop you won't be labeled K-pop.

k-pop is just korean pop, much like jrock(japanese rock) or europop, it's each its own.

I believe it's just Korean-Pop. Americans can make it if they can speak Korean! (maybe)
