How long to wait before following-up on a resume?

How long should you wait before adding a job to your resume?

  • I recently took a job just to get by and I worked there a little over a month. Well a better oppertunity has opened up with better pay and benefits, should I add the job the the resume? I dont want to have to explain the whole "well this job gives better benefits" situation

  • Answer:

Employers will want to know why you worked such a short time and may make the assumption that you were fired. So you might want to exclude that one month job from your resume. Especially if you have other prior experience. I had a bad experience with a job and only worked there a month. I've left it out of my resume to avoid questioning.

Why wouldn't you explain that? That's one of the biggest reasons. I took a job at a grocery store once. worked there for 2 months. Problem is, it was 20 miles away. I got a job at another grocery store 3 miles away from my house. I was lopping off 30 bucks a week for gas before...I put the job on the resume but asked my manager if I could use her as a reference. She was cool with it..but not all will be.
