How should I follow up after a second interview?

How long should an "Interview Follow-up/Thank you Email" be?

  • I was wondering how long an Interview Follow-up/Thank you Email" should be. Also, I have always heard that the interview follow-up/thank you letter can't be too long, but how long is to long.

  • Answer:

You are supposed to write a thank you note within 24 hours of the interview ... and, you can email it .. be sure to ask for business cards from the interviewers. There are many great "sample" thank you letters on Google - and, it should be more than one paragraph .. you want to thank them, want to point out why they should choose you and what about the position entices you.

Send it within the first 24 hours of the interview. Use it to REMIND the interviewer of a point or a topic that came up during your interview that he/she will remember you by. Could be experience, knowledge or even working for a competitor. Should not be very long but make it count. Beware if you have prior confidentiality agreements; honor them!

It should be short and to the point. I'd say no more than a paragraph! Just enough to keep you on their mind but not bore them with a long email that everyone essentially sends.

I'd say around 5 to 7 days. Probably 5 days then they will get it around the 7th day.
