What is Google Latitude?

• My boyfriend just asked me to download google Latitude and is insisting that I do it right away. I read a bit about it but I don't get it. Is it some kind of tracking/ stalking device? 1. What is google latitude? 2. What do people generally use it for? 3. What happens if I download it? 4. Can he track me? 5. Can I track him? Why would he want that? 6. Can I stop using it/ get rid of it/ Pause it when I don't want to be tracked? We have been dating for 3 years and this past year I had to travel a lot for internships. We have been talking engagement and I feel like he's going on a freak out mode. I don't know much about droid apps so any help and advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

  Google latitude allows users to share their locations using google maps. It can be used to tell other users where you are in relation to them. If you download the app, it can share your location with him if YOU choose. The app has a setting to turn the sharing off. He can only track you if you turn the setting on. The app will store location history PRIVATELY until you choose to share your location with someone. If you look in settings, I'm sure you can stop location recording altogether. It's basically a Google version of Foursquare Hope that helped :) P.S. And latitude is usually included with Maps...
