Answer:
I have had horrible experiences with Qatar's ground staff on more than one occasion. The worst—and most memorable—of these experiences occured in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Qatar flight was delayed due to operational reasons and I missed my international connection (which was booked with another airline). According to Qatar's policy, they are supposed to rebook missed international connections caused by delays. However, the ground staff in Malaysia refused to. Their excuse? The plane was late because Allah willed it... and therefore it is not their fault and they are not liable *facepalm.* So, I was stuck in Malaysia by myself for 24 hours with no compensation... which is inexcusable for a so-called five star airline. In addition, Qatar has messed up my reservations at least two other times. Their flight attendants are awesome and their in-flight service is very good, but if anything goes wrong and you have to deal with the management Qatar is one of the worst airlines out there. I have only flown Emirates three times, but all three flights were very nice. Best airplane salad ever! Their entertainment system was indeed very good (but Qatar's is decent as well). Virgin's service has declined in recent years, but I still find their flights comfortable. The quality of their food, entertainment etc. is reasonable, but not of the same caliber as the Middle Eastern (and Asian) airlines. A flight is just a flight, and booking with Qatar would give you another $1000 to spend on fun things to do at your destination. Pretty much any airline can be tolerated with a good book or laptop loaded with movies and a sandwich purchased in the terminal. It depends on what your priorities are. If how you get to your destination is really important to you and you want to spend the extra money, you can't go wrong with Emirates! It is a lovely airline.
