What does it take to become a makeup artist?

  • Im a freshman in highschool and recently i've been feeling like I need to explore my career options, and i was wondering what does it take to a certified REAL makeup artist? What school should i attend? What would tution be? I just want to know the basics of what i need in order to go into this career! Thanks!!!!!

    Experience, talent, creativity, flexibility, being open to learning new things, have some knowledge on skin & different skin types, be SANITARY!!!! In some states you have to be licensed to practice makeup artistry & others you don't. You don't really have to go school for it but any kind of experience is helpful especially formal training. I am self taught and have been doing makeup for about 3 years now. Learned everything I know from experience, 5 art classes (1 in middle school, 2 in high school, 2 in college) & YouTube. (By the way my major is biology in college, the art classes were just because I liked art... lol) Having a good amount of knowledge about art (drawing lines & angles, focal points & the color wheel, tints & shades, color schemes) plays a major role in my makeup applications. Probably explains why I'm so good at it (jokingly.... no but I am good ;-] ) The more you know, the more creative you can be. In applying makeup, there's always room to grow!!!!! Good Luck!!!!!!!

Well talent first off:) secondly some sort of college degree majoring in cosmotology. I dot know if your school offers this but at my school there is a special school for kids who want to study there career choice more so they go to school and all their electives are what their career choices were. So if you choose cosmotolgy you have 3 electives focusing on the skills for thatc: that would def. help on a resume
