Is it bad to use baby powder?

When making powdered baby formula is it bad to use just boiled water and mixing the powder?

  • I always pre make a jug of powdered formula the night before a new day. I only prepare 24 oz. which is good for 5 bottles for the day. I always boil the water and let it cool for about 30mins and I mix it and I leave the jug out of the fridge so it can cool longer(my mother says its okay, but im not sure shes right). I just want to know if that makes it go sour or should I stick the jug right into the fridge after mixing the formula? Can I mix the formula with cold water? I just need a little advice

  • Answer:

you are never ever ever supposed to leave mixed bottles out the fridge. The milk starts growing bacteria the minute it touches water so that is why they tell you to refrigerate it immediately and then after you take it out throw it away after one hour because your baby can get worms and or worse. Here is what i do: I boil the nipple and bottles to sterilize, then i boil the water that is going in them. I let the boiled water cool down completely and then poor the amount of water i need in each bottle. Then i cap them and leave them on the counter next to the powdered formula. When she is ready for a bottle i go to the counter and put the amount of scoops she needs in one of the bottle and give it to her. I am a first time mom and im guessing you are as well and my mom gave me advice as well but people in her generation also had sick kids. my mom was taught that roach spray kills lice. smh lol but either way i was wondering the same things as you and i did my research. Good luck.

You should not be making up formula in advance - that encourages bacterial growth and can give your baby food poisoning. PLEASE take my advice on this. My advice would be to boil your water and put it into your sterilised bottles in the morning, then seal them. They don't need to go in the fridge, just leave them on the side to cool. When baby is ready for a feed, you can add the formula powder and give baby the bottle at room temperature.

Formula expires 24hours after making it, boil the water, cover it, let it cool, pour it into a washed out jug with a lid and leave it out, that way the clean water is pre made all you have to do it worry about is mixing and warming up the bottle by letting the hot water tap run, put the bottle sealed with the nipple in a coffee mug and let the water run into the cup until the bottle is warm enough for baby to drink. (not too hot) The reason you boil it is to make it pure. ALWAYS refrigerate any unused formula. Bacteria needs warmth to grow. I hope this helps. ;) Good Luck and Congrats with your new baby!!!

How else would you make it? What you're doing is perfect. No, you shouldn't be putting very hot liquids in the fridge - you'll warm up the whole fridge and that's unsafe for everything else in there.
