If I get a bachelors degree in Canada, will I be treated the same in USA?
-
So I plan to get a bachelor's degree in Automotive Engineering in Canada, Ontario from either UOIT or McMaster University. I then may possibly most to USA. If I were to move to USA, will my degree be treated with the same level of competence as if I were to have gotten the degree in USA, or will I be treated as if I'm some incompetent immigrant with a foreign degree even though my country of origin is Canada; an extremely close partner to USA? I'm curious because I don't want to put in 4 years of uni, then go to USA and be treated as if I were incompetent whilst if I never had moved in the first place, I still would have been treated like a proper intelligent young man with a proper bachelor's degree. So; will I be treated the same?

Answer:
Yes. Canadian accreditation standards are comparable to ones in the US, so it would be viewed upon as a comparable degree.

Canadian degrees from accredited universities are considered the equal of US degrees from accredited unis. Problem is lack of jobs in the US, especially since the automotive industry has been hit very hard in prolonged recession/Depression. You need to be especially good, and preferably hold a masters degree, to have much hope of finding a job with an employer willing & able to spend the vast time, money and hassle of obtaining any employment visa. Over 31 million Americans - more than the entire adult population of Canada! - are currently looking for work. Real unemployment rate is 22.5%. Unusually for US-Canada, US unemployment is running about double that in Canada. You'll likely have a much easier time of getting work in Canada's auto industry than in the US, unless there's a dramatic turnaround in US economy over the next few years - and that is not in most economists' crystal balls. You won't be "moving" to the US without immigration sponsored by an immediate blood relative, or else a temporary employment visa. And it's nothing to do with your Canadian degree - Canada has good schools and their degrees from accredited institutions are well regarded. And Yanks are generally fond of our dear Northern neighbors, too.
