It is not necessary to get the alienware version but mind you they are pretty nice but soooo $$$ but yes too my knowledge you would be able to play lots/most of the games out there! You have plenty of ram and a good video card i think. Some people might say different, I say you're good to go ! For the outdated question, for sure a couple of years, mind you technology does advance at a fast rate! I still have my dell inspiron 1720 maxed out and its been 5 years now. It was the equivalent of the alienware version if not higher, paid over 2 grand for it... So, that said, you would have this laptop for AT LEAST, 3 years without any issues I would say, and max 6 years and thats pushing it! Another suggestion.. personally, a 14'' screen is a bit small to play games, but thats my opinion.

Lets deal with the second question first. By outdated do you mean actually out of date or incapable of running the latest games at full whack. If the first, then any computer you buy is outdated when you buy it. If the second you should be fine for a couple of years or so. Certainly capable of running the latest games with no problem but the only downside for me is I would not purchase a Laptop for gaming. Upgrading a lappy is not easy. A good tower system can last far longer with it's upgrade capability and will in fact be cheaper.

Yes ! You should always look up a games system requirements and compare to the laptops system before buying or install a game since new games come out and often have more demanding system requirements. Can your computer run that game? System Requirements Lab analyzes your computer in just seconds, and it's FREE. http://systemrequirementlab.com/
