I want to add an image to the side of my tumblr blog and have it link to a website - how do I do that? It'd be similar to a sponsor link on typical blogs.

You need a customized theme, if you search themes on tumblr some will come up but it's all about picking and choosing the right theme, some come with add on buttons, some dont.
