Blackberry 8520 or HTC tattoo?

Blackberry 8520 OR 9300 vs. HTC Wildfire S?

  • Basically: I got a HTC Wildfire S. Got it for last Christmas. It's great for the apps, but for texting it is terrible. If you get more than one or two texts the phone will crash, also it will refuse to download your messages depending on how many there are, like it'll say there's no space when there is, and the on-screen keyboard is TERRIBLE. It is slow, crashes often, and dies ALL THE TIME. Now here's the good bit - my dad's work are very close to getting rid of a bunch of BlackBerry 8520 and 9300 devices, and usuall they allow the employees to buy not only there own BlackBerry but other ones that other employees are handing back. These BlackBerries are used by in near-pristine condition - they've only ever been used for business purposes. They often sell them quite cheap, usually £50-£100, which is really all I can afford (new Curve is outta the question for me then :L) as I have to buy it myself. All my friends have BlackBerries, and it really annoys me not having BBM, and I have to chat to my friends on Whatsapp, which is, also, TERRIBLE. Not really worried about the scratches on the screen / housing, if it's that bad I'll just buy a £10 housing in bright orange off Amazon and be on my way. Basically just wondered if I should buy the BlackBerry? And my contract is sim-only, and the network will allow me to add BBM for about £3 a month, so I'm really just going BB vs. HTC, not contract-wise. And the company removes all the security filters from the phones before selling them. Thanks :)

It sounds to me like you are on Giffgaff, as they are the only network that charges £3 per month for Blackberry. I would definitely not get the 8520 as it is only a 2g phone, so it will be really slow in everything it does. If I have misread it, and you are on 3 UK, then the 8520 will not work on 3 anyway, so that is another reason to eliminate that phone from the list. You have already said that you don't like your HTC Wildfire S, because it is slow, etc. This leaves you with the 9300 Blackberry Curve. I have that phone (it is the only one of the three that I own), and I liked the phone, although I don't use it now. From the list you have made, I would still choose the 9300, but I would suggest downloading an app called Quickpull, as this will keep the phone's memory clear and uncluttered. The phone will run faster if you use this app, which is free on App World. My choices from your list, in order are: 1. Blackberry 9300. 2. HTC Wildfire S. 3. Blackberry 8520.

Avoid the 8520, it's crap, the 9300 is similarly prices but a much, much better phone. The Wildfire S is a lot more flexible and Android has a much better range of apps available but obviously doesn't have the QWERTY keyboard.

Blackberry curve 9300! Its so much better than 8520, its more faster&better designed!

I would suggest you don't go for neither of these. Both, the 8520 and the 9300 run are outdated. They have a awfully pixelated screen quality, run on the outdated BB OS5 software, and offer rubbish features. If you want a better phone than all three of these, go for the Sony Ericsson Walkman Live. It'll only cost you between £90 - £130. It offers a 5 mp camera with flash and a 720p HD video recorder. Additionally it has a powerful 1 Ghz processor unlike the 600 Mhz in your Wildfire S. Therefore, its perfomance is by far better than any other budget phone. Thpe touchscreen is very responsive and the sound quality too is amazing with a range of equaliser settings and it even has dual speakers on its back for an enhanced loud volume. Like the wildfire S it runs on the 2.3 android platform too. I own the Sony Walkman Live and I can assure you its far better than any of these and definitely the best budget phone. It has better battery than the Wildfire S too. It is still available on Virgin and 3 store. By the way, it is also better than the overrated Samsung Galaxy Ace. The only reason why Sony Ericssons are cheap is because of their reputation which went down slowly, but this is one of the last amazing phones theyve produced along with the Xperia Ray, which too, comes with everything you could want from a phone, without the stupid compromises Blackberrys come with.
