2000 Ford Taurus Air Conditioner Problem?

  • I just bought my 2000 Ford Taurus exactly a month ago today from a used car dealer. It had just had its 90,000 mile tune up and they replaced the belts, brakes, tires, etc. Im not sure if its just me, but im a person that doesnt like to run my AC alot bc it uses gas and money is tight, so i usually just run the fan. Yesterday I was in the drive thru and it just got TOO hot for me so I turned on the AC. My whole car would shake for 5ish seconds and then stop for 5, shake for 5, stop for 5. It literally felt like the bottom was going to fall out of my car. It scared me so I turned it off and went back to the fan. On the way home it smelled like somthing was burning, smelled REALLY hot, and the car wasnt driving right! It almost felt like i would give it gas, but it wouldnt go. I told my mom about it and when i showed her what I was talking about, we went to the mechanics. They said it sounded like it was cycling, whatever that means, and it could be a freon problem. Theyre going to run a test on it, and itll be $200+, Could anyone tell me what they think the problem might be? I really hope the dealership wasnt dishonest with me about the condition of the car :(

Well, after a while of not using something it can get dammaged. The blower motor could have something that pulls a lot of energy from your car. The car needs to be checked, it might be something easy as replaciong the blower or it might have something on the AC system, other than the gas that it needs!

is there any warranty from the place you bought it. I would find a good mechanic, and not one from a major car dealership. They charge about 95 dollars a hr or so. Find someone who has a little shop and can work on it.

I don't know what the dealer told you, and I have no idea what you paid, but this is a 12 year old car, and I'll bet that if you bought it, then you agreed to buy it "as-is", because you have the freedom to do that. I've delt with AC systems that had a leak and no freon, and systems that were sealed and just needed freon to work, and neither would vibrate excessively, so I think there are two things that could cause the vibration you're feeling: 1) a seized/ broken AC compressor, or 2) a broken engine mount - it'll be the front one. Anyways, this is how capitalism works.
