How can I get my background settings back?

Changed display settings on my laptop. Now some things won't work?

  • I browsing around the graphics properties on my laptop and I saw a hot key to reorient the screen upside-down. My being amused by simple things, I had to try it. So I press Ctrl Alt Down and that's where things when bad. It adjusted my resolution to the lowest settings and now I cannot run any of my Steam games. I've tried restarting my computer and though the background and all of the icons are back to normal, it's still causing my games to crash. I tried to pull up the icon that I had clicked on initially to try and adjust it back from there but it only wants to open once every time I restart the computer. And even then, it doesn't work. So I tried to adjust it from the control panel/system/display settings. This prompts a warning that my current graphics display driver can not be used... It loads display settings after that and it starts out with Generic PnP monitor and the box with the 1 in it is grayed out and with no box 2. Clicking on advanced settings will cause it to freeze and nothing seems to be working. I know I wrote a lot but I want to get all of the details out there just in case. So please internet, in your vast knowledge will you help me?
