Is Telus a good cell phone company?

Using the Mobal company cell phone service in Japan? Cell phone rental?

  • I'm going to Japan for a few weeks and would like to rent an inexpensive cell phone so that my Japanese friends can contact me. The cheapest so far seems to be offered by the US company Mobal: free phone, free incoming, and I can tolerate the cost of the outgoing calls. They send you the phone before you leave the USA and you return it after you get back. I can't find any reviews online for their Japan service, only for their European world phone service. Has anyone had personal experience using the Mobal (this is the company name, I'm not misspelling mobile) phone service in Japan? Any suggestions for alternatives? Thanks!

  • Answer:

The deal with Mobal looks good but only if you are receiving calls.Any calls , sms/texts are outrageous, compare the prices with Rentafone, DoComo, Softbank in Japan. I,ve used Rentafone and they were good, hiring a sim card is another alternative if you only want to use phone for calls and nothing else. Data charges can be extreme on sims and hire phones in Japan.
