Should I minor in Political Science or English?

Which is Better for Law School? Double Major in Journalism and English or in economics and political Science?

  • Both the prospects seem interesting. However, I have a feeling that the latter would give me more chances to get into law school than journalism and english? Is that true? Please don't mention that law school sucks coz this is my passion and im doing it anyway

"I have a feeling that the latter would give me more chances to get into law school than journalism and english? Is that true?" No. Your major does not matter. You can literally major in anything you want. Law schools only give a passing glance at your major. What ultimately counts is your GPA and LSAT score. Choose the major that will give you the best GPA and, as a nice bonus, the major that gives you a backup plan should you 1) not get into a good law school, 2) change your mind, 3) hate being a lawyer or 4) graduate unemployed from law school. For that reason, economics would probably be better than journalism/English since you'd actually learn a more useful skill. Political science is extremely common. You don't need to do it unless you just really like it and it won't confer you any advantage.

To be honest, they really don't care as long as your grades are good and you've done well in courses that have something to do with the kind of law you're practicing. I personally don't see how a journalism major helps you become a lawyer; wouldn't you want to become, oh I don't know...a journalist? An english major helps because you have to be able to write briefs and motions and everything well. Economics would help if you become a tax or corporate lawyer. Political science is pretty much the most worthless degree there is outside of "language arts" or something. Given the two choices you gave, I'd go with neither. How about English and economics? However, you might want to think about trying for a degree in something that's actually useful just in case you end up not wanting to be a lawyer or if no law firms want to hire you. If that happens, your journalism or English degrees will be worth pretty much nothing since you wouldn't have learned anything really useful in the real world.
