How to open winmail.dat file?

How to open sam file in any os >?

  the sam file is restricted and encrypted because it has the passwords hashes in, xp checks all registered users and passwords against this file, how else do you think you can login ? if you open the file then all you will see is random numbers and letters, these are the hashes, if you can decode the hashes then all you will get is users and passwords that are registered to that particular machine, changing the hashes will make it virtually impossible to boot into windows without doing a re-install (at the most) or creating a new user (at least) so really, there is no point in opening and viewing the sam file
