Is it possible to host a second Wordpress install in a subdomain?

I have my own website and domain, using Wordpress as a blogging platform. I'm starting a new project soon that will require a progress blog, but I'm trying to avoid paying for another hosting plan. Is it possible to put a second Wordpress install inside a subdomain folder of that first website? The plan being that I'd get a second top level domain to redirect to that first website's subdomain, but I'm not sure if it's possible to have a second Wordpress install on the same server. (I feel like with my very rudimentary understanding of all things server side it's entirely possible that everything I just said was gibberish.) If it is possible, how would I go about doing it without affecting the first, top level install?

Answer:
It is doable. You simply create a new database, *or* you could even use the existing database and rename tables from wp_ to whateveryouwanted.
