What's the difference between the Sims 3 pets and the Sims 3 pets Expansion pack?

So I just got the Sims 3 pets expansion pack on ebay and i was wondering what new things are on it and what i should expect? is it better then the sims 2 pets? whats the difference between the Sims 3 pets plus and the Sims 3 pets expansion? what cool things are on it? I'm kinda excited because I been wanting it for so long now, thank you :)
