How do I get my synthesizer to work on my computer?

• I recently purchased an Akai professional off amazon (it was previously discontinued so it was fairly cheap) and I'd like to know how to get it to work on my computer. I have an MIDI to USB cord and I've tried plugging it in but I can never get it to make sound and my computer says "line in" (in sound devices) isn't plugged in. Are there certain drivers I have to download? Also, in the amazon description it said it did work with USB. Thanks so much!

  If they said it works with USB, does it maybe have a USB plug? If so, directly plug it via USB. Midi is so dated. But I also use Midi. I have an interface, the midi cords go from the midi keyboard to the interface, from the interface a USB cord goes out and is plugged to my computer. I don't know what computer you have, if it's a mac you could go in System Prefs -> Sound and check the inputs there. Also, what program do you use? I use Logic, you have to set up the midi keyboard first. It's in the MIDI preferences, you have to add the device ;)
