Where to live in california?

A few close friends and me and looking to live in south california for a year or maybe even longer. Were young and want to experience the beach life and what california has to offer. We want the live near or even on a BEACH if possible. We are also looking for a cute, CHEAP place. Where in california would one recommend to live?? :)

if u want smth really cheap,then go to the valley or palmdale,lancaster....thats if u r d boring person but if u r d outing person,Los angeles is d best place...
