Can you tell me about practical nursing?

Can anybody tell me information about nursing?

  • I'm 18 turning 19 in June & when I graduate I plan on going to Lonestar College for nursing. Could anybody tell me how many years it would take for each degree & how much is made each hour/year so on? Just tell me all you know if possible. I'm curious & don't know much of what I'm about to walk into ,but I'm willing to learn. What diffrent type of nurses are there? Which one makes the most? Actual answers from nurses or studying in college students would be much much appreciated! Thanks :) -Brittany

David is right, but I wouldn't do the 2 year RN degree. The starting wages are the same, but you can't move up past those entry-level wages with a 2 year degree. 5 to 10 years down the road you'll be kicking yourself and wishing you had a 4 year BSN when your friends are moving up and you're stuck at the same pay level you started with!

Other answers

LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) and RN (Registered Nurse). RN makes probably double what an LPN makes. LPN can be attained in roughly a year at most technical colleges. RN can be attained through most Universities or 2 year college and can be in an Associate Degree or Bachelors. Bachelors usually have a higher starting wage but not a huge difference.
