What are some unique/interesting colleges?

Is community colleges good or bad?

  • I'm not sure whether community colleges are good or bad cuz I'm hearing both good and bad things about them. When I graduated high school everyone went to community colleges if they couldnt afford regular universities or colleges cuz they said community colleges are lower than regular colleges and universities dramastically. Also, kids who went there that I knew of from other schools went there if they didnt know what to do, just slacked off, or couldnt/didnt get into regular colleges and universities. When I talked to my friend at the time he said it like a clown college cuz it that bad. This year my brother graduating high school and he says (along with everyone else in his class....he said) they knocking it cuz it pathetic, same thing as when I graduated high school with the price thing, low lifes go there, etc but idk if this has to do with his school cuz they pushing for the kids to have big egos and everything swelling to their heads, so thats how my brother is and everyone seems to be the same. It examples like that. On the other hand, my parents and whoever they talk to say how awesome the community colleges, and praises it like a god or something. Besides it being cheaper than 4 year schools, everyone says how awesome the professors are, etc etc etc. I'm confused now if it really good or bad cuz I'm literally getting 2 sides and no where in between in the middle, or anything in the middle pushing me to one side or the other. It either good or bad. I need other people's opinions to see if any of the sides are right and not the other, and if it really a pretty good school. Unless kids just wanna be kids and wanna look good or something amongst friends.

Community colleges are neither good nor bad. They just are. People go to community colleges because they fit people's needs at the time. In general, they only go up to AA degrees or have vocational degrees, but if that's what you're going for then a community college is great. Yes, people go to community colleges because they were lazy in high school and can't get into a regular university. Why do you think that makes the community college bad though? Seems to me, it would be the student that would be bad, not the school. Your whole second paragraph doesn't make any sense at all if you're trying to point out why community colleges are bad. All you are talking about are students. Any school is more than just the small group of students you're talking about. Community colleges have many great students. The bottom line is, if a community college fits your needs, go for it. They are great. If it doesn't fit your needs (like you're trying to get a PhD) then don't go because it will be a complete waste of time for you. Community colleges are not good or bad. They either fit your needs or they don't. Simple.

While the community college is not as prestigious as Universities, they are better then nothing. Many people go to the community colleges for two years to get their Associates degree. Then they transfer over to a University. This saves money, and they end up with a degree from a University.

i think its good only if its right for you...if your comfortable with it then go for it

There are 2 sides to CC, and I usually tell them both to people who either don't know where to go to college, or are considering CC. In general though, I say it is a good option as long as they know what they are getting into. The BAD The environment is full of people who fully intend to graduate, but never actually do. If a test is coming up and people are expecting it to be impossible, the students will just not study and take the F. It can be really challenging for some people when the "oh well I'll just retake it" mentality is so out there. Also, while it requires more effort than HS, it's not going to be as hard as a university (because not only will the university require more out of you, at that point in your third year you will be taking upper-level courses). The GOOD Financially you'll be in a much greater position than your peers going to universities. If you keep up a high GPA you may also get a discounted tuition rate at the new school you're transferring to (it depends on the school, but local schools should do this for you). It also gives you time to adjust to college in a way that may not be as intimidating for you as a university might be. As I said before, I recommend CC mainly because you get the same degree from the university as your peers, but for a LOT less money. And yes, in response to that user above me; even if you're going for your PhD you can go to CC first (not quite sure why he thinks you can't..).
