What is this meaning of life of which you speak?

  • Whenever some religious person asks an atheist, "Well what's the meaning of life then?" The atheist will usually be put on the defensive, and bring up examples of: living it up for today appreciating the beauty of the world trying to understand the universe etc. But why should the atheist be required to provide for a meaning to life? It's often thought that a meaning to life is inherent in a religion-- that you don't have to justify it, it's there. Is the meaning of life... to be good today... so you'll be in heaven tomorrow? But then what's the point of being in heaven? To "live" right? What's the point of heaven? To not be in hell? Explain to me: 1. Is there a meaning to life? 2. If so, what is it? Personally I see no point.

    Life is what you make of it. It doesn't have to have meaning.
