What food from a house do minnows eat?

True or false: It is a Guyana taboo to eat food at the house of someone else?

  • Is it a taboo to eat food in the house of someone else in Guyana unless you bring it yourself? I have a friend from Guyana and he refuses to eat when he comes over unless he brings the food himself. I've done the research and have no found anything about it. Is he making it up so he doesn't have to eat at other peoples houses?

  • Answer:

LOL. I think there's something wrong with your friend. To answer your question, no, it is not taboo. In fact it's pretty much the opposite. Most Guyanese people encourage you to eat food (and can sometimes refuse to take no for an answer even though you ate a mountain of food just before you go over to their house). They generally consider it bad manners to not offer beverages and food to their guests. P.S - maybe your friend is a picky eater or possible doesn't like your cooking and doesn't know how to tell you for fear of hurting your feeling. Or he/she might have some sort of digestive issue and doesn't want to tell you... Or maybe he/she is just rude. Sad, but it happens.

No. It's the exact opposite. It is seen as an insult if you don't eat their food.

Most cultures it is considered rude too not eat offered food or in general too refuse any gift. Some native tribes in papua new guinea. will consider you a wizard/devil if you do not eat offered food. the idea being if you don't want/need food you are a magic creature that is dangerous. Which makes it perfectly okay too kill you.
