What to wear going horseback riding?
-
I'm on a trip so I don't have any of my horseback riding gear with me so I'm not quite sure what to wear when I go on a long trail ride in a couple days. I don't have jeans only a pair of Calvin Klein stretchy leggings/pants and my running spandex leggings, which of these would be better? I'd think the more sporty running ones but they might be kind of slippery in the saddle so maybe the other ones? For shoes I have a pair of running shoes with me and a pair of knee high winter boots without any heel that aren't very padded. More like just a layer of leather-ish material so I'm thinking more the boots... Which ones would you pick?

Answer:
The Spandex may be slippery....but the legging/pants may wear a hole through. Shoes...either or. neither has a heel.....I would actually suggest the running shoes. If you want you can put rubber bands on your shoes, put them in the stirrups, and then bring the bands under the stirrup and hook them on the toe of your shoe to hold your shoes in place during a ride. They will prevent the heel from slipping through and hanging up. It is something a lot of barrel racers do.

Very flexible soft pants like gym pants or you can buy some for riding. Tops you can choose yourself but mostly pullovers or t- shirts. And plastic boots.

Anything with polyester. The same material they use for the MLB games. Cotton probably wouldn't work because you would get cold fast no matter the temperature.

just wear the less slippery pair, but i would borrow some boots with a heel and a soft sole. any shirt.

Use your stretchy pants. The spandex will cause you to slip in the saddle, which will aid in you falling off. Knee High boots are useless if they have no heel. Use your running shoes. They'd generally have more grip + somewhat more of a heel. NOW TAKE THIS ADVISE, PLEASE: When you ride with running shoes, DO NOT TIE YOUR LACES TIGHT. In fact, have them quite loose to the point your foot will not fall out when you walk, but will slip out when you pull your shoe. You get the general idea. Darwin forbid you ever fall and have your shoe stuck in the stirrup, unable to remove it. Having very loose ties will help your foot slip out of the shoe - resulting in your life likely being saved. Or else be dragged.
