Would this be a good beginner's cello?

Would this Cello be good for me?

  • Ok I am looking at learning the cello. I want an instrument that is not to expensive but still has a good sound. I also want a cello that would be good for and intermediate player because I pick up on instruments very quickly and don't want to go out and buy another one in a year. I have played String bass in the past so this is nothing to new to me. I play Guitar, Bass guitar, String bass, saxophone (Bari & alto mostly), oboe, and piano so why not add cello to the list! Plus I love the sound! Well I found the Cecilio CCO-600 cello... Would this fit my wants, and would it be a good cello for an intermediate player? Let me know if you have played this cello before and what you thought and if you find any videos or reviews on it link them please. If you don't think that this cello would work for me and you have a suggestion...please feel free to to share! I am open to ideas! Thank you!

Malcolm put it very politely. Cecilio cellos are appalling cello-shaped pieces of wood. Avoid at all costs.

Cecilios are some of the worst cellos made. They sound terrible, they fall apart quickly, they usually won't stay in tune for more than a few minutes at a time and they're only good for a beginner who will lose interest in a week or two. Other really crappy brands (and this is not a complete list) are Mendini, Crystalcello, and Lark. If you love the sound of cello you need to realize that the cheap cellos don't sound good at all. You need to spend a minimum of around $2000 to even get close to a good cello sound, and if you want an instrument that sounds more like the ones you hear on recordings you need to spend even more. If you want a decent beginner instrument that doesn't sound great but is at least playable and sturdy plan to spend around $700-1000. If you want to try cello for a while before investing any real money, rent one.

Since these people before clearly and plainly stated that Cecilio cellos are terrible, the best place to look for other brands of cellos is http://www.musiciansfriend.com/cellos?_requestid=297590
