Good cowboy music/tunes?

  • Hello! I am becoming a cowboy! Exciting! I have clothes; a horse; a lot of grits, bacon, coffee, and other cowboy food; and am in the process of purchasing a small ranch in New Mexico. I only have one concern, what type of music do cowboys listen to? I'm a pretty decent fiddle player, and am okay at the guitar, so if you could just recommend me some good folk songs, that'd be great. I was thinking Johnny Cash-esque, only older. Please help! I cannot wait to start herding cattle and saving damsels in distress and fighting off rogue bandits and stopping bank robberies! I cannot do this without my cowboy music!

I believe the term for you would be "Drugstore Cowboy" or "Rexall Ranger". any song by Rednex would suit you.

I'd suggest starting with some old western singers like Gene Autry and Tex Ritter. In Western Swing I'd suggest Bob Wills.
