Is anyone a Medical Assistant?

Did anyone become a medical assistant then go back to school for RN and do well?

  • I just need a job to start having more income then i do right now so medical assistant would be best and i can finish it within a year. I would love to go to school for RN but having a small baby I need a bigger income sooner.

My recommendation is to skip the MA program and instead get your LPN/LVN. It's about the same length of time, and then you'll have half the Assoc. Degree in Nursing for your RN complete. You'll also have more job opportunities available to you, because of the LPN license whereas MAs only hold certifications. Also, research what the job situation is like in your area - many places in the country have a huge excess of MAs and the job market is saturated, because these for-profit schools are cranking out MAs like it's a freaking assembly line. For many people, getting the MA is a HUGE waste of time and money. None of your classes will transfer, either. I suggest rethinking your plan if possible.Good luck.
