Why is there any processing time required for live Nielsen ratings?
-
In this day and age, why do people wait for the "overnights"? How is it not more or less an automatic process? I understand the concept of ratings being adjusting due to DVR viewing etc., but as far as live ratings go, why is there such a long processing time, and why are the often adjusted between their initial posting the morning after and their "official" posting later that day?

Answer:
Assuming they could publish the ratings every hour, what good would it do to publish the 9pm ratings at 10pm when everyone went home 3 or 4 hours ago? I also think it's a matter of tradition.
