How to play american PS2 games on uk PS2?

Will a UK ps2 play American ps2 games out the box?

  • I would like to buy a pink PS2 slim that only appears to be sold out of the UK (at least from what I have seen on ebay and Amazon). I have heard mixed answers as to whether or not my American PS2 games will play on the console right out of the box. I do not wish to mod the PS2 but would like to know what are my options BEFORE buying it. Thanks.

    Ignoring the vandal wanting you to smash the door... No. Unlike PC games, console games are region coded, which means that a game disk not intended to be used in a specific region can NOT be used on a machine without the correct hardwired coding. While it IS possible to "fix" that, since you're in the US, most if not all of them involve violating US *Federal* Law, since I have yet to hear of a console maker making their console codings public. My next question falls into the catagory of why buy a PS2, since they haven't been produced since 2005/6? As for the pink shell, PS2 or PS3, you can find skins to stick to the shell in multiple colours and formats (princesses, horses, CoD, BF, etc...). Good Luck!

no, do to region coding, uk ps2 games cannot play on ps2. This is due to the fact that the console's dvd drive has settings. There are however tricks to make it play without moding the console, like tearing off the front dvd drive's bay door...oh wait is that cdrs actually, nm probably..ym yes but you need hdloader. yeah its called swap magic, its a bootable dvd mem card which acts as a software compunent for hdloader. Its complex, i believe the same method to modding is region coded as well. There is a way to play it by like i said, breaking the dvd door.
