On Howrse what does it mean for a Golden Apple to be lost?

• Now, let me get this right first; I do not mean the gray Golden Apple in which means the coat is retired. You see, I want to change the coat of one of my horses, but it already has a Golden Apple. And when I try, it tells me that my horse is already equipped with it and the item will be lost. What does that mean?

• Answer:

  It means that your horse already has that item and you are giving it the item again. If you give your horse the GA, the old coat will be gone and you will be able to choose a new one. The old GA will not return back to your inventory. For example: If you give your horse a Philotes Stroke, then give him a Centaur pack (which contains a Philotes Stroke), the 1st Philotes Stroke will not go back to your inventory. So therefore it is "lost"
