What are some tips for running the mile in gym class?

    Well a mile isn't that far but.. You should eat carbs the day before and something to give you energy in the morning and or before you run. When I run in the morning, I like to eat bannans with peanutbutter because peanutbutter gives you energy and bannanas prevent cramps. You should wear shorts and a t-shirt, you do not want your legs to get cold, (but you said it is hot where you are) and you don't want to overheat, so maybe just wear a t-shirt with it. You should also drink lots of water a couple days before thre "race." And drink some (in tiny sips) the morning of the "race" Strategies would just be to concentrate on your breathing. In through the nose, out through the mouth the whole way. Also concentrate on your pace, since it is at school and not a race, you do not have to sprint at the beggining, but just find a pace you would like to stay at for the whole mile until the end, sprint your hardest. (last 100-200 metres) In a real race you would go 80% sprint at the start. Also always concentrate on where your going, and don't concentrate on the people around and how fast they are going or how close they are behind you. They might want to make you go faster then you can handle and you will end up slowing down. Another stategy is just to practice. How about you run every second day for a couple of miles and you will get better obviosuly! Good luck!
