Why is my ear is throbbing?

Horrible ear infection, throbbing pain, PLEASE HELP!!?

  • So two days ago I woke up and my left ear was a bit itchy. The next day it was sore. And then yesterday it was sever pain. I couldn't open my mouth, smile, move my eyebrows or my eyes. I went to the emergency room and the doctor said "you're fine it's just a little inflammation and a minor ear infection" I told him"no you don't understand, it's hurting so bad" I was balling my eyes out so he prescribed me ear drops. Well the ear drops are only making it hurt worse and now I woke up today with my right ear infected as well. I can no longer eat, chew, open my mouth, turn my head, look left or right, And every now and then there's a sharp excruciating pain on the left side of my head. Well now there's a huge lump behind my ear/on my neck. What do I do? I've never been in so much pain before. Any suggestions?

  • Answer:

Ive had it so bad before, I couldnt close my mouth and had to sit with my head up. I thought I was going to die. I called the ER and they told me to come in and they gave me 5 pain pills (darvocet) and told me to use them sparingly. Holy Hesus!!! I thought I was going to die!! The pain was so intense, I was sobbing and bawling. The nurse was an ignorant mess, and I was at their mercy. I dug my heating pad out of the bathroom closet. I took 800 mg of ibuprophen every 6 hours. and kept my ear on the heating pad. Finally after about 3 days, I got some relief. I went back to the ER again and they gave me Toradol IM. It helped. I think they thought they were teaching me some kind of lesson...I am not a drug seeker. I had a friggin ear ache.

You go back to the emergency room and demand to see another Doctor. A family member of mine is going through this very same situation and he has a severe infection which has spread and swollen all his glands. Now he is in the hospital receiving strong antibiotics given through a IV drip.
