Have you ever had spinal anesthesia?

Daily headaches from spinal anesthesia - 14mo. post baby?

  • Hi all.. I had a planned C section with my 2nd child. I received a spinal anesthesia before my surgery, and all went smoothly until immediately following my surgery. After they closed me up, they brought me back to my room where I was struck with the M O S T debilitating headache I have every experienced. The whole time I kept telling my hubby to please make the baby stop crying because I thought my head was going to implode! The nurses gave me something for it and it slowly went away. Since that day 14 months ago, I have had a headache usually 4 out of 7 days a week. They're never as bad as that initial headache, but they're close. Enough to make me cry if my kids are loud enough. My doc told me if it was a post dural headache it would have gone away after a few days and never came back. I'm at a loss and need to get my inquiry out there and see if anyone else has had this problem, being one of the 1% this happens to, and what you did to help! Thanks..

  • Answer:

Why on earth didn't you get treated at that time of the initial headache? We have ways of fixing that. (epidural blood patch) I've never heard of one 14 months out, but it's possible that you have a slow leak of spinal fluid. If it gets better when you lie flat, and worse when your head is up for a while, that could be it. You might want to consult a neurosurgeon to see if that's a possibility, and discuss treatment options. I feel so bad for you... please look into it and see if you can have it taken care of.
