Archery for beginners?

What bow weight (Archery) should I use for beginners?

  • I'm into archery right now and want to buy a bow, but I'm not sure what bow weight is suitable for me. I'm a 16 year-old female, approx. 5' 0 tall, and I'm a beginner.

  • Answer:

For a beginner, the Matthews Genesis is hard to beat. http://mathewsinc.com/product/genesis/ It's adjustable from 10 to 20 pounds. When you purchase it the bow will be set to 20 pounds. And, you don't need to worry about draw length or let-off

In a recurve use nothing more than a 35# draw weight. The best way to find out what you can use is to go to an archery shop and get fitted for a bow, try out several different types and models and take some lessons. After you have had a few lessons by then you will know what the best bow for you will be.

I'm guessing you mean 'draw weight' and not 'bow weight'... We can't answer that question here based on just your measurements. You'll actually need to go to a professional and get fitted. My first bow was set at 55lbs, while my friend's bow was set to 40lbs... and we are the same size.
