    when i fish for bass i use a 8 foot shimano convergence with a 2500 size reel, i use a daiwa regal500i reel which is my favourite to use for anything in fact, and 15 pound power pro line with a 5 foot 7 pound leader. the reason i go heavy is because i fish where there are lots of branches and all that to get tangled on so i keep it heavy so if i get my line rubbed on a rock it dosent get messed up and break. that set up may get a bit pricy so another option would be to go to walmart and get any shakespear rod and reel combo and buy new line. I hope you can get lots of fish and some big lunkers
