The original formulation consisted of 1% CN gas in a solvent of 2-butanol, propylene glycol, cyclohexene, and dipropylene glycol methyl ether. Nasty stuff, which is why it is rarely used anymore....

You're better off carrying wasp and hornet spray. It shoots a stream quite a distance & will render your attacker, both 2 & 4 legged, helpless for longer than pepper spray.
