When the PH is measured by the indicator method?
-
Explain why, when Ph is measured using an indicator, the concentration of the dye should be small compared to that of the substance being tested?
-
Answer:
One, you don't want the color to be too strong. You're looking for subtle changes, and it's hard to tell some colors apart if there's too much dye (red from orange/yellow, blue from green, etc). Secondly, you don't want to change the volume of the solution by very much. Increasing the volume will lower the concentration of the solution, and will create error in the pH reading.
