What is the ideal salary that would suport a wife and a kid ?

Depends. If u have debts or mortgages to pay, 35000 is just on the edge or maybe not enough. But if you're all fine & everything is payed off, 35 grand is enough to live a pretty good like for 3 people. My dad makes 55000 and we're a family of 4. We live a pretty decent life buying what we want and need.

That would depend on where you live and what debts you have. I don't think $35k would cut it for any part of the US.

Ideal = $100,000 a year in a modestly priced community, but good luck with that. But if you have $35,000 then you do the best with $35,000. Being very conservative will allow you to bank a little, and not waste money on fees, interest, or late charges. {{you will have more than that, thanks to some IRS kick-backs like Additional child credit of $1,000; maybe some Earned income credit, a relatively small federal tax bill ($1200 - so put M-4 on your W-4) (which will be offset with the credits) Use a credit card wisely to get what you NEED when it is on sale, and pay the full bill off ever month when it comes for an interest free loan [ while you earn rewards !! ].
