Pokemon TCG Tournament Rules?

What is a good 3v3 pokemon team?

  • Hi there, me and some friends will be having a pokemon 3v3 tournament soon and i'm stuck for team ideas. I would love to hear some of your ideas on what a good team would be, there are some restrictions however: Rules: - Each trainer may enter up to two teams of three pokemon. - The teams may not include legendaries, pseudo-legendaries or 'battle frontier' pokemon. For the full list see below. - There will be no substitutions allowed at any point. - The items Life Orb and Light Ball are banned from this competition. - If a trainer breaks any rules then they will immediately be ejected from the tournament (both teams). They will be allowed the right to appeal the decision. - Fourth generation pokemon only please; it will get too confusing otherwise. - You may, if you wish, ask for a battle advisor up to, and including, the quarter final matches. - All battles will be capped at level 50 to ensure a fair challenge. Banned Pokemon: All Legendarys (including roaming) Dragonite Tyrannitar Salamence Metagross Garchomp Togekiss Lucario Milotic Spiritomb I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to pokemon and so i'm not sure about the more advanced side of carefully assembling a team. Thanks all!

Considering Life Orb is banned, a 3 pokemon wall-and-stall tactic is probably the most effective. Of course, with a defensive set, you must actually SWITCH your pokemon mid battle, something begginers seem to be afraid to do. If your not a fan of switching, then offensive is the only viable option. ~Wall-n'-Stall~ When creating a defensive core, it's important to cover all your bases. A good start is a Steel type, as they natrually resist 12 out of the 17 types. Skarmory stands out as one of the top physical walls in the game. Teach it Roost, Spikes, Whirlwind (forces them to switch, allowing you to damage through spikes), and Steel wing. However, Skarmory's special defense is abysmal, meaning you should only send him against physical attackers, which he is practically immuned to. This is where partner 2 come into play, Blissy. Blissy is pretty much immune to special hits, but can't take a single physical hit. Softboil, Toxic, Flamethrower, and Aromatheropy is a great set for her, allowing her to stall out people with toxic, while keeping her teammates healthy with Aromatheropy. With Blissy and Skarmory together, the one major problem occurs of dealing with the likes of Infernape and Blaziken, who can instantly vaporize both of them. A great counter to them is Tentacruel, who can easly demolish them. Toxic Spikes, Surf, Sleep Talk, and Rest allow him to soak hits repidiatly and take on those 2. So, here's the defensive team in a short run. Skamory: Spikes, Whirlwind, Steel Wing, and Roost (use against physical attackers) Blissy: Aromatheorpy, Toxic, Softboil, and Flamethrower (use against special attackers) Tentacruel: Rest, Sleep Talk, Toxic Spikes, and Surf (use against anything that threatens the duo) Black sludge is a good iteam for tentacruel, and leftovers should be used on the other 2. If leftovers is an option for only 1, give it to Skarmory and have Blissy hold something else. ~Thuderstorm~ Perhaps defense aint your style? Fair enough. This team is designed to finish a team off in a maximum of 8 turns, and is simple to use. First, lead with an Electrode, holding a damp rock. Teach it Rain Dance, Explosion, Thunder, and Light Screen. Set up Rain Dance with your god like speeds. If you manage to live the turn, explode to take something else out. Thunder and Light Screen are fillers, but if your up against a Skarmory or a Gengar, respectivly, its a better option to use those. Then have Kingdra come on out. Make sure Kingdra has the ability SWIFT SWIM. It doubles his speed in rain, making him outspeed even Ninjask before his speed boosts. Then, decimate a team with completely unresisted coverage of Dragon and Water (bar Empoleon and Shedninja). Outrage is fantastic if you have the BP to tutor it. Other wise, Dragon Pulse will do. If you go outrage, go with Dragon Dance and Waterfall for the next 2 moves. If Dragon Pulse, then use Toxic and Surf. Finally, let it hold a chesto berry and have the last move be Rest. That way, if your low on health, just rest up and get it all back for round 2. Finally, Jolteon with Thunder and Shadow ball can easily handle both Shedninja and Empoleon. Electrode: Rain Dance, Explosion, Thunder, and Light Screen (lead with it) Kingdra... Set 1: Outrage, Waterfall, Dragon Dance, and Rest (destroy everything with it) Set 2: Dragon Pulse, Surf, Toxic, and Rest Jolteon: Thunder, Shadow Ball, and Fill in anything (Yawn and Substitute are alright) Give Electrode the Damp Rock and Kingdra the Chesto Berry. Jolteon can use Choice Specs or Magnet. If your afraid of being outsped and killed with your Electrode, focus sash is an option. Due note, however, that this will leave Kingdra only 4 turns to destroy as opposed to 7. ~Tricky-Tricky~ Finally Suicide Trick Room is a fantastic option if you really hate the defensive team. Lead with a Focus Sashed Bannette that knows Trick Room, Destony Bond, Will-o-Wisp, and Shadow Claw. Use Trick Room, reversing the speed tiers (slow pokemon go first), and then use Destony bond to take the first foe with you. Then, send in Marowak holding a Thick Club, making him more powerful then Deoxys. Spam Earthquake till your hearts delight, unless something that resists it comes in, which is what Stone Edge, Fire Punch, and Double-Edge are for. Finally, a Scizor with the ability Techinican can Spam priority Bullet Punch with an astounding base power to always clean up after Marowak, regardless if Trick Room is still up or not. Bannette: Trick Room, Destony Bond, Shadow Claw, and Will-o-Wisp (lead) Marowak: Earthquake, Stone Edge, Fire Punch, and Double-Edge (sweep) Scizor: Bullet Punch, Bug Bite, Iron Head, and Brick Break. (clean up) Give Bannette a Focus Sash, Marowak a Thick Club, and Scizor a Choice Band. If your not a fan of choice items, give scizor pretty much anything and He'll be fine.

I presume this is a 4th gen tournament as I do not see any legendaries or übers from the 5th gen in your list. In that case to get good pokes and maintain good coverage honestly I would use the three starter pokemon's final evolution formes. Empoleon Torterra Infernape And for your second team maybe: Espeon/ Alakazam Luxray Hitmontop

Matatabi_2Tails

i hate to break it to you bro but the pokemon you've listed are not legendaries just extremely tough pokemon i would use Rotom, Sceptile, and Starapter

Gregory

i would go with magikarp...if they are still around
