I need a refresher in how to simplify rational expressions?

  • I'm trying to make-up some work with stuff that I learned a while back and I can't really remember how to do it all... Could someone walk me through a couple problems? You don't have to give me the answers, just explain it best you can. Thanks! Simplify the rational expression and state any restrictions. (2x^2 + 8x – 24)/(2x^2 – 8x + 8) Find the least common multiple and state in factored form: 12x^2 – 6x – 126 and 18x – 63

    2x^2 + 8x - 24 = 2(x^2 + 4x - 12) = 2(x + 6)(x - 2) 2x^2 - 8x + 8 = 2(x^2 - 4x + 4) = 2(x - 2)(x - 2) Reduce and get (x + 6)/(x - 2)...x..cannot = 2 12x^2 - 6x - 126 = 6(2x^2 - x - 21) = 6(2x - 7)(x + 3) 18x - 63 = 9(2x - 7) LCM = 18(2x - 7)(x + 3)
