What does this phrase mean?

What does the phrase "Ich fahre dir über den Mund" mean? (German)?

  • I'm reading the book "Wunschloses Unglück" by Peter Handke, and I've come across a phrase in this sentence: "Wenn die Leute wie üblich vor ihr jammerten, fuhr sie ihnen über den Mund." I can't find anywhere what the phrase "fuhr sie ihnen über den Mund" means. The phrase translates in Google Translator, but it comes out as nonsense. My dictionary doesn't help with this one either. Does anyone know if this phrase has a idiomatic meaning? It can also be written "Ich fahre dir über den Mund." if that helps any. Thanks!!

  • Answer:

It means to keep interrupting somebody, talking so much that they don't get a chance to speak.
