How long does constipation last for?

  • I seemed to be having the above condition at the moment and it's because of one or both of the following reasons... Change of diet (Healthy , losing weight , etc...) and/or anxiety & Depression , which is also likely as I lost someone last year and it's of course had an effect on me and I sort of remember having it last year for a litte while too. Any advice is useful! :)

    In the overwhelming majority of constipation cases it is caused by diet. Not enough fiber and water and too much processed foods that contain little if any fiber. Eat a high fiber cereal for breakfast with fruit cut up in it. Instead of whole milk soda or those fake juices sold in supermarkets substitute water. If you are really plugged up take a couple of tablespoons of mineral oil. In effect it greases the pipes (your intestines) which will allow normal peristalsis to move things along. If you feel like you need to have a bowel movement but it is stuck, use glycerin suppositories. If that doesn't work then an enema or two might help. The last resort is the doctor.

Well one person's constipation is different to another person's. I've never been truly constipated, but here is what I do to ensure my 'movements' are...good...: -Green shake in morning. I blend up various fruit/veg (pears, tomato, spinach, celery etc.) and down it, lumps and all. According to unreliable sources, this essentially acts as lubrication for your stools lol. Works best when this is the first thing you eat/drink. -Psyllium husk tablets (2 prior to each meal, 6 max per day). -Fibre from cereals, porridge etc. -For your anxiety/depression, try listening to some relaxing youtube vids such as 'whispering' vids and relaxing backgrounds. Also listen to Joe rogan's podcast on iTunes...funny and informative. :-) -Exercise/gym is great to get in shape and work out any stress.

Until you make poopey. Add some fiber to your diet and try to stay regular. Avoid OTC remedies as they are harmful to the digestive system.
