Mechanical engineering degree help?

  • I want to study mechanical engineering but want to be in the sub-sea engineering industry after I complete the degree I have two options: Foundation degree in Sub-Sea Engineering with 1 year top up to Honor's degree in mechanical engineering at the COLLEGE (Not university), and then continue to a masters degree at university. OR Go straight to university and do a 3 years honor's degree in mechanical engineering and then continue to a masters. They both take up the same amount of time to get me to a masters degree but one has me studying mechanical at university for 3 years at a honors degree level the other keeps me in college doing 2 years foundation in sub-sea and then onto mechanical 1 years honor's. Would getting a degree from college be just as good as a degree from a university?

  • Answer:

The only difference between a College and a University is that a College does not have Masters Degree programs.

You are more ambitious than I was. I just got a degree from a University. It was fine. My employers just wanted to know degree yes or no from an accredited university. Honors students may have a more technical part of the workplace. And that can be fun. However, if you also want money, most of my managers had a degree in engineering and a Masters in Business. Also, most had a P.E. License which requires education and experience. . I worked for 41 years with 31 being engineering. No regrets. BS Mechanical Engineering University of Arkansas. . Good luck and enjoy.
