What are the basic french verbs?

Any tips on how to remember the French Verbs?

• Tomorrow I'm going to be revising the French verbs 'Avoir' and 'Etre' at school, as a mini 'pre-test' review thingy. I've already pretty much nailed most of the 'avoir' verbs but getting confused at the 'etre' verbs, I'm pretty much accidentally muddling them up. So, I'm just wondering if there are any tips on helping me remember them without me mixing the verbs up. x] Thanks!

  Do you mean you're muddling up with Etre verbs with the Avoir verbs, or you're muddling up the Etre verbs up with each other? I don't suppose it matters either way... you can use the same technique to stop you getting confused. Do you remember at school using the rhyme "Big Elephants Can't Always Use Small Exits" to spell "Because"? Well, do the same thing for the Avoir and Etre conjugations. I'll do an example for you but you can make one up yourself if you want. ETRE = Je suis Tu es Il/Elle est Nous sommes Vous êtes Ils/Elles sont Take the first letter of each conjugation. In this instance... S, E, E, S, E, S. Then just make up a rhyme to match those letters. For example: "Silly Elves Enter Sleighs Every Summer". It doesn't even have to make much sense. The point is, it's much easier to remember a stupid little rhyme than to remember a jumble of French words. (Obviously this technique works assuming that you know each conjugation but you just get them mixed up, otherwise it won't help you much because you'll just end up with a letter for one and won't know what the letter stands for!)
