Where I live, to get a license as a "Professional Engineer" (UK: "Chartered Eng."), requires: A bachelor's degree (4 years) in Engineering or Applied Science from an accredited university. An internship. 4 years supervised relevant experience, documented, under a licensed engineer. Successful completion of an exam on engineering law and ethics. Being of "good character" - as per 3 references. Payment of the application fee, and yearly dues.
