Why are games cheaper on steam?

I want to get Dead island, on steam it's $29.99, at EB Games brand new it's $48.00, so why is it cheaper on steam does it not come with some content? I need to know so I know what one to buy. Also add me on steam@ Jayet101.

It doesnt come with the CD but its forever on your steam account, I prefer to buy games through steam so then i can install them anywhere i am on anyones computer and play without me having to bring 50+ CD's with me i got over 20 steam bought games :)
