For a person wanting to start sewing what would be the best sewing machine to buy? And where can I buy it?

Hi, i am a general sewer, and have made simple crafts and childrens clothes. I purchased a Singer Genie when they first came out many many years ago, and it still performs to this day. It was a small tabletop model, but easy to travel with and carry. I looked for a small, uncomplicated machine with easy to understand directions. I think the best thing you can do is google sewing machines, and see what models, sizes, and prices are out there for what your ultimate goal is, and go from there. Ebay would give you a good idea of used machines you can buy and try. Hope this helped... Best of luck :)

That's a tough one. You could opt to find something used and cheap, but that runs the risk if it being in bad condition. You could buy something bargain from a store like Wal-mart or Hancocks. Or you could get a quality machine from a real sewing shop and hope that you learn and enjoy it. Honestly, the investment could go either way.
