What Jobs Involve Travel?

Answer:
Many workers are settled in their home bases. But what if you want a career that requires some travel? If you can't be separated from your family for too long or have a permanent residence already established, there are a few career paths you can follow that allow for occasional travel and exploration beyond your established city. Sales While many sales positions require extensive travel, there are just as many that require an established home office and the occasional call to travel. Many of these positions are with companies that have a long-term relationship with their clients or products that do not require constant replacement. In addition, there are "sales" positions that include simply the sale of services, rather than goods. These sales positions may require less travel and face-to-face interaction with clients that span the country or globe. Also, seniority and tenure play a role in travel requirements. Those in more senior positions within a sales team can choose which traveling sales calls they wish to take. Consultant Consultants are hired to spread that information about their chosen field to their clients. Consultants are needed in several fields--accounting, HR, healthcare, management and business. Consultants go through extensive training from their corporate offices and are then often assigned to a geographic area. Many consultants are able to liaise within a certain commutable distance to their home or home office. This minimizes the travel requirements of the job, but still requires the consultant to be on the road quite often. Buyer When you enter a store, you rarely think about how the merchandise was chosen to line the store's shelves. But for large chains and specialty shops, a buyer or purchaser has been hired to pick the products available for sale. More often than not, a buying position requires travel seasonally to head to trade shows or expositions to learn about new products available for sale. Toys, housewares, home improvement items, fashion--each one of these niches has its own trade show. Buyers will also occasionally visit manufacturing locations to get a full background on a product they are considering for their store. Regional Directors In a multi-tiered company that spans many geographic regions, regional directors and managers are needed to ensure that business flows smoothly in their chosen area. This requires quite a bit of travel from their home office to various outposts of their company inside of their assigned region. While much of the work is liaising with site directors or managers via phone or email, visits are often needed. These are wonderful positions for anyone who feels a kinship to a specific area of the country and wishes to explore every facet of that area. However, it may require travel to one site frequently, as regional directors or managers may have to work extensively with one "problem" site before moving on to other locations. Auditors Much like consultants or regional directors, auditors are hired to evaluate the innerworkings of companies (or company outposts) and provide conclusions regarding a number of working issues. These may include cost-benefit analyses, HR issues, accounting audits or even manufacturing processes. Auditors may work for one company alone and travel to assigned locations. Auditors may also work for their own company and travel according to their clients' needs. Auditors do travel, but must often return to a home office or location to create reports, analyze the data they collected or obtain new business. They may have to begin as consultants or regional directors before gaining the expertise needed to serve as auditors.
