Sulfate free shampoos? are they really better?

What are some good sulfate-free shampoos that work great for African American hair?

  • I have relaxed African American hair and I'm trying that I'm trying to grow out, but i just don't know what kind of shampoo to use. I think my hair is slightly dry and damaged (probably from the many relaxers I've had). I'm also trying to repair my hair from the recent damaged that the relaxers have caused. By the way, there's no way I'm going to chop off my hair and go natural, that's not an option. I've done a little research on the shampoos that are possible good for my type of hair but i just don't know where to start. I also looked on the customer reviews for Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition Conditioner and Garnier Fructis Dryness Reversal Treatment, 3-Minute Undo, Triple Nutrition and heard that these two products are great for my type of hair, i just haven't tried them yet. So really I'm just trying to find the right type of shampoo and conditioner for my type of hair, I really have no idea wear to start. Oh and one more thing, I'm looking for products that are inexpensive and not like extremely expensive like the Wen hair products. Products that I will be able to find in like Walmart, Walgreen's, Sally's and etc.

There is a sulfate-free Argan Oil line from One 'n Only that can be found at Sally's. I have the shampoo, conditioner and hair mask, but use the shampoo the most. My hair is thick and natural and needs a lot of moisture, so I often prefer to use the VO5 moisture milk conditioner as a leave-in. It's cheap, usually under $1.00.
